Route 66 – road that doesn’t (any longer) exists

Route 66 is one of the iconic places in the world, especially for motorcycle drivers. While being in USA, I also panned to get a slight touch of atmosphere of this route. My plan was to see some of the most special places that manager to keep the old time atmospehere.
First of these places was Williams – which was the last place where Route 66 was replaced by net of interstte highways. Next I viited Flagtaff – where my motel was – as in the past – nearby the rail road.

Next day I visited very charming towns Winslow and Hoolbrok and then I cross the order to New Mexico and reached Abuquerque.

In Hoolbrok the Wigwam motel is still in operation

The following day I visited car muzeum in Santa Rosa – some of these cars looks amazing - and afterwards I entered into Texas where I reached Adrian - the exact midpoint between Los Angeles and Chicago on Route 66.

Afterwards I visited Cadillac Ranch – looks similar as on most pictures, while not exactly the same as everybody is free to ad down graffiti on cars. And in Big Texan I got a really nice steak J

Yesterday I visited the Route 66 Museum in Clinton, Oklahma. Fantastic place that describes whole history of Route 66 – from the idea, thru building till the end of the road.

Extra challenge while driving on Route 66 was weather. I’ve been driving in heavy rain (non-stop for over 1 hour) and in very heavy wind (from south, it was difficult to keep in line even at 30 mph / 50 km/h).
If time and eather allows me I’ll be back to Route 66 on my way back to Chicago. And the plan to drive whole Route 66 – from east to west – remain for the undecided future.
